1981 - While the first activity that started the movement ending in today's
F Line was the donation of Hamburg, Germany's car 3557 by the late Maurice Klebolt, no action really began until 1981, when the BAERA brought ex-Muni 178 back to San Francisco to run in a special charter. This was the first visible activity. Shown here, is late night footage of the car right after delivery, and an attempted clearance run inside Twin Peaks Tunnel, after regular service had ended. The late Jack Smith is operating the car.
